Detroit Pistons star Blake Griffin out for remainder of season
Detroit Pistons star forward Blake Griffin is out for the remainder of the season with knee tendonitis injury.
The Detroit Pistons received shocking news early in the morning on Monday, April 1 that their superstar Blake Griffin will be out for the remainder of the season and playoffs. His injury came due to tendonitis in the knee.
This is heartbreaking news for the players, front office, and most importantly the fans. Blake Griffin has been a part of the Pistons backbone on the offensive end. And he has largely carried the Pistons in rough scoring droughts.
Blake had been ruled out his last game against the Portland Trail Blazers due to a knee injury that had given him problems right before tip-off. The Pistons would go on to win that game without him. But it’s no debate the Pistons are going to need him in the long run.
Until now Griffin had been completing his most healthy season since the 2013 to 2014 season when he played 80 games for the Clippers. He has played 72 of the of the 76 total Pistons games so far this season.
Still though, this season has been the most games played for Griffin since that 2013 to 2014 season with the Clippers. Unfortunately for him, he’s going to sit at 72 for the season and will not receive a minute of playoff action with the Pistons this year.
Blake Griffin had been ruled out for Monday night’s game against the Indiana Pacers late Sunday.
Reports came out that he had only been ruled out for a “sore left knee”. But that is clearly not the case with the reports Monday morning.
Extent of Blake’s injury?
The extent of Griffin’s injury is unknown. But Reggie Jackson dealt with the same type of injury back in 2016. Reggie had the option between different types of treatment. He would eventually choose to have platelet-rich plasma.
Platelet-rich plasma are injections to the knee to help accelerate the healing process of the injured tendons, ligaments, joints, and muscles.
Reggie Jackson announced that he would do the plasma injection therapy right before the 2016-2017 season had begun. He would eventually miss 21 games to start the season; or about a month and a half for recovery.
But Reggie returned and did not perform the same way he had performed the prior season. He was rushed back to the Pistons lineup. This would eventually hurt him even more as he would miss the last 9 games of the season because of the lingering injury.
So Blake could be out of any action up until late August or early September.
Blake’s best moments this season.
Blake Griffin has had a career year for the Pistons. His stats of 24.7 points per game, 5.5 assists per game, and 7.7 rebounds per game on 46.3 percent from the field and 35.8 percent from three are clearly the best numbers of his career.
From highlight-reel dunks to dominant post/three-point shooting power forward, Blake Griffin has changed his offensive game so much that he has the attention of national media in Detroit. His 177 made threes is by far the highest of his career and top 5 in franchise history.
He even had a career-high 50 points early in the season against the Philadelphia 76ers. A career high 50 points topped with the game-winning layup and free throw to send Philly home.
Or how about the time he brought the Little Caesars Arena crowd on their feet with the clutch three against the Houston Rockets?
Or the dunk over Joel Embiid? Pistons fans enjoy every second of this one.
Yes Blake Griffin can still dunk the ball and put grown men on posters.
Remember how I said Blake changed his offensive game?
If I told you in 2013 that 2019 Blake Griffin would be going between the legs and splashing threes, you’d probably think I’ve been drinking.
Whatever your favorite moment is of Blake Griffin this season, he has had an amazing year for the Pistons.
APRIL FOOLS!
If you haven’t already caught on, today is April Fools’ Day. Blake Griffin is thankfully not actually out for the rest of the season. It was all a fun little scheme.
Enjoy the Blake Griffin’s awesome season and upcoming playoff appearance for the Pistons!
