Time for Detroit Pistons to help Blake Griffin
By Ku Khahil
Blake Griffin carried such a large load throughout the season for the Detroit Pistons. Now that he’s hurt, it’s time for his teammates to pay him back.
Blake Griffin has had what is arguably the best season of his career during his second year playing for the Detroit Pistons.
He dropped his career high 50 points in an overtime victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at the beginning of the year. He’s went from someone who was stupidly known as only a dunker, to someone who is shooting 36 percent from three on seven attempts a game.
Throughout the season, before Reggie Jackson started to turn his season around, Griffin was carrying the Pistons to a .500 record and keeping them in the playoff race.
The MVP race is between James Harden and Giannis Antetokounmpo, but Blake would’ve been a MVP candidate any other year with how he’s played. And if we were doing a top 10 MVP ladder, Griffin’s name should be found on the list for how much he’s carried the Pistons offense this season.
But, sadly, Griffin is incapable of doing this right now.
Griffin was out three games with a sore left knee, and the Pistons struggled without him. Even when he returned against the Oklahoma City Thunder and Griffin dropped 45 and made nine threes, the rest of the Pistons still struggled.
In the Pistons last loss against the Charlotte Hornets, even with a bad knee Griffin was seen diving on a loose ball to keep the Pistons offensive possession alive.
Simply put, Pistons fans everywhere should absolutely admire what Griffin is doing. He’s basically playing on one leg and is still giving every thing he possibly can to will this team to the playoffs for only the second time in the past decade.
The dude had a wide open lane in the loss to the Hornets, a situation he usually lives for to destroy rims with highlight dunks. He couldn’t even dunk it and had to lay the ball up, because of how bad his knee is.
Blake has given the city of Detroit everything he has this season, and on one leg is giving even more.
It’s time for someone outside of Andre Drummond to repay the favor. The leader of your team, the best player on your team has carried you guys almost all season.
Being without his left leg isn’t stopping him from being on the floor, fighting alongside his teammates during the playoff race.
The least Griffin’s teammates could do is show up in the final two games of the season against the Memphis Grizzlies and New York Knicks.
Griffin needs their help.
