The Detroit Pistons are one of four teams chosen to play in Mexico City in the 2019-20 NBA season.

The NBA announced Friday the Detroit Pistons will be participants in the NBA Mexico City Games next season.

The Pistons will face the Dallas Mavericks at Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City on Thursday, December 12.

The San Antonio Spurs are matched up against the Phoenix Suns for the second of the two games at the venue in the 2019-20 season.

This game marks the first time the Pistons will travel outside of the United States or Canada for a game since 2013 when they played the New York Knicks in London.

"“The Detroit Pistons organization is excited to be among four teams participating in the NBA’s Mexico City Games 2019.  Playing a regular-season game in Mexico City will be a great experience for our players and coaches and we look forward to showcasing Detroit Basketball to an international audience.” — Detroit Pistons Vice Chairman Arn Tellem"

The NBA Mexico City Games in 2019 will mark the 29th and 30th games in the country since 1992 — the most games held in any country outside the United States and Canada.  It is the fourth consecutive season the NBA will play two regular season games in Mexico City.

"“NBA games in Mexico City are a core part of our efforts to reach and engage basketball fans throughout Mexico and Latin America.  With a record four NBA teams visiting Mexico City next season, we expect an unprecedented level of interest and excitement around these games and our surrounding community events.” — NBA Commissioner Adam Silver"

The Mavericks will be without the newly retired, future Hall-of-Famer Dirk Nowitzki. However, they will be bringing back their young star Luka Doncic — and perhaps recently acquired Kristaps Porzingis.

The Pistons were 1-1 against the Mavericks last season.

The NBA says the games will be broadcast live on ESPN Deportes, Televisa and NBA League Pass in Mexico, and will reach fans in more than 200 countries and territories.
