With less than a day until the NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons have begun their offseason roster overhaul by trading Jon Leuer.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski (see below), the Detroit Pistons will send Jon Leuer to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Tony Snell and the 30th pick in the coming draft. This trade currently gives Detroit 3 picks in the draft with 15, 30, and 45.

Snell is a 6 foot 7 shooting guard/small forward, who has career averages of 6.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1 assist per game in 21.8 minutes. Snell is a career 38.2 percent shooter from the three-point line, and managed just shy of 40 percent last season. He is a low usage complimentary player, who could start at small forward and would be a defensive upgrade on either Luke Kennard, or Wayne Ellington primarily due to his size.

This trade gives the Detroit Pistons a serviceable wing player who can make three’s at a good clip, which was a massive need going into the current offseason.

Tony Snell will make slightly more than Leuer this coming season at $11.5 million, and is on the books for the year after, so the Pistons do have an extra year at $12.1 million. But they didn’t project to have a huge amount of cap space anyway. The trade puts the Detroit Pistons current cap projections at just over $119 million for the coming season.

The Detroit Pistons have turned a bench player into a serviceable wing and an extra first round pick, to me that is a massive win.
