Dewayne Dedmon
Dewayne Dedmon was a comparison last summer for those who believed Andre Drummond could end up shooting threes this past season.
Drummond didn’t end up shooting the three ball, but Dedmon is fully capable. Over the past two seasons spent with the Atlanta Hawks, Dedmon has shot 37 percent from three on 2.8 attempts per game. He’s also a reliable free throw shooter at 81 percent.
Having a a stretch big sub in for Drummond and play next to Blake Griffin would give Griffin much more room to work and another player to kick out to when the defenses sag in on his drives.
Dedmon is 7’0″ tall and very much plays all of his 245 pounds. Along with being a seven-footer, Dedmon has an insane wingspan that he uses very well on the offensive side of the floor.
He played well for the Atlanta Hawks this past season, putting up 10.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game in 64 games played.
Dedmon is also quite athletic for his size. Playing with rookie sensation Trae Young opened up lobs for days, something Dedmon was definitely capable of.
A six year pro, Dedmon would be a perfect backup big man for the Detroit Pistons. He has nice experience in those six years, playing for a great organization in the San Antonio Spurs in 2016-17 and also spending two seasons with a rebuilding squad in the Hawks.
The seven-footer is capable of stretching the floor and being a roll man to the rim. He wouldn’t be incapable of jumping over a textbook or moving side-to-side without falling over like Pachulia.
While still being relatively young (30 years old), I’m not sure the Detroit Pistons will be able to afford Dedmon. But, if they can, he should be at the top of their center list.
