After some question to whether the Detroit Pistons first-round pick would participate in the summer league, Sekou Doumbouya will play.

The Detroit Pistons selected Sekou Doumbouya with their 15th overall pick in last weeks NBA Draft. The 6’9″ Guniean born professional French player is only 18 years old and has drawn comparisons to Pascal Siakam.

Doumbouya was projected by most mock drafts to be drafted far before the Pistons pick at 15, but the 18-year-old slid to the Pistons and it was an easy decision.

Doumbouya had been playing professional basketball overseas since he was the age of 15. This past season, he played for Limoges CPS where he averaged 7.8 points, and 3.3 rebounds on 48 percent from the field and 34 percent from deep.

It was in question whether Pistons fans were going to get to see Doumbouya in the summer league. He had just played in a season overseas and Ed Stefanski said they weren’t sure due to needing some “clearances”.

But, it has been confirmed by head coach Dwane Casey. Detroit Pistons fans will get their first look at their enticing first-round pick on July 5th, where the Pistons open up their summer league play against Croatia. Doumbouya will be joined by his fellow draftees Deividas Syrvidas and Jordan Bone, along with second-year players Bruce Brown and Khyri Thomas.

Piston fans can expect to see Doumbouya play hard with a high motor. The 15th overall pick is pretty talented, but yet very raw. Doumbouya’s key to getting into the rotation immediately this season will be by his defense.

The Pistons desperately need someone who can guard and handle bigger, talented small forwards. At 6’9″ with a long wingspan, Doumbouya fits the mold perfectly.

Doumbouya will likely flash a lot of his skills during this summer league, and cause every Pistons fan to lose their minds heading into the second half of the off-season. But, after listening to Casey for the past year and a half, we should all know Doumbouya’s key to play time this year will be through playing defense.

Everyone in Detroit is extremely anxious to see Sekou Doumbouya suit up and play. I think I speak for every Detroit Pistons fan when I say we are extremely joyful that Doumbouya will be playing this summer.
