Detroit Pistons Trade Rumors: How realistic is a trade for D’Angelo Russell?
By Ryan Love
The Fit
Drummond could fit in perfectly with the way the Warriors operate while adding an extra dimension they have not had.
The concept is simple really:
- Curry and Thompson shoot at All-Time levels, but sometimes they miss.
- Drummond is a backboard vacuum. He could rebound those misses at a historic rate as he has done for Detroit’s abysmal shooters he’s been surrounded with most of his career.
That’s it. The idea is that simple.
In addition to the obvious benefit, Drummond served the Pistons as an effective passer his last two-to-three seasons. The addition of Griffin slowed his numbers down, but Drummond averaged three assists per game in the 2017-18 season.
Drummond runs the floor well when he is playing with energy and would be a dangerous lob-target for Curry both in the half-court and in transition.
Drummond will be 26 when the 2019-20 NBA season begins, which still puts him in his prime. Barring injury, one would expect the big man to continue to improve as he has done each of the last few seasons (endurance, passing, free-throw shooting, etc.).
