Recap ten years of Detroit Pistons basketball, highlighting all the moves made, and taking a glimpse into the future
It feels as if the Detroit Pistons have been stuck as a middle of the road franchise for a long time. This is a frustrating position for a fan base to find themselves in as we are not good enough to make a deep postseason run, yet we are too good to earn ourselves an early lottery selection to acquire a top-caliber college talent.
When the Pistons made the move to bring in an all-NBA caliber player like Blake Griffin to the motor city, expectations rose. With one trade, the Pistons went from being a team hoping to make the playoffs to a team expecting to make the playoffs, and make some noise while doing so. When we limp into the playoffs and get swept, it is understandable for the fan base to be frustrated and want to blow the roster up in the hopes of getting higher lottery picks.
Regardless of your personal opinion of what the front office should do with our beloved franchise moving forward, what is undeniable is that since Blake Griffin has joined the Pistons there has been a buzz and an enthusiasm about the team that has been lacking for many years.
Not too long ago there was a time when the Detroit Pistons were completely irrelevant and were struggling to crack 30 wins in a season, and even in those days, the earliest we picked in the lottery was the seventh pick. Even when the Pistons were a truly mediocre, bottom feeder team we were not getting early enough lottery picks to get our chances at franchise-altering talents.
To show how far we have come as a franchise since those days I have compiled a list of the rosters for our last ten seasons spanning from the 2010-2011 season all the way to the upcoming 2019-2020 season. I will discuss the team’s roster construction, their latest draft picks, their best performing player(s), and how the season ended.
