Pistons GT has something to build off of setting records in the Season 2 finale, in what was a disappointing season.

Pistons GT went from a playoff team in their inaugural season to the worst in the league this year, but in the season finale they turned in a historic performance.

The NBA 2K League has to rewrite the record books Pistons GT set a league record scoring the most points in a single game during their 108-69 win over Heat Check Gaming (6-10). The 39-point victory gave Pistons GT it’s second win, and first since Week 2.

Even more impressive was the part Joseph played in the win. He set the league’s single game record for rebounds with 29 as part of the league’s second triple-double of the season. He finished with 18 points, 29 rebounds and 14 assists.

The incredible things is Joseph entered the game second on the team in rebounding, averaging 4.4 boards per game. That’s quite the performance that will hopefully carry over into the third season.

Ending on a high note is a breath of fresh air, finishing the season 2-14 with a scoring differential of -11.3 points per game. Even with the finale’s 39-point win.

Pistons GT tried to become a more guard-dominant team, similar to the NBA landscape, but had players out of position and their point guard stuck in New Zealand due to visa issues, team officials said in an interview with The Athletic.

That hurt team chemistry as they couldn’t practice together as a full team, with communication being a key factor in eSports. A slow start was predictable and a mid-season trade helped chemistry a little, despite finishing 1-12 after the trade.

For now, it’s back to the drawing board for Pistons GT as team officials develop a plan to get out of the 2K League cellar.
