John Henson

The second option for the Pistons to acquire via trade would be John Henson from the Cleveland Cavaliers. This trade would follow the same scenario as the aforementioned one. Galloway is on an appealing expiring deal, Henson is also on an expiring contract worth a base salary of $8.7 million. Detroit would also have to throw in the Isaiah Whitehead trade exception to make things work out financially.

A concern with Henson is that he’s recovering from a torn wrist ligament that limited him to just 14 games last season. Prior to, he started 69 games for the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2017-18 season.  He posted 8.8 points and 6.8 rebounds in 26 minutes per game.

The appeal to the Cavaliers trading Henson is that Cleveland has quite the frontcourt roadblock. With Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, Ante Zizic, and Larry Nance Jr, all commanding playing time, where does Henson fit into all of that? He’s fresh off a significant wrist injury and already on an expiring deal, why not flip him for a young guard and some picks?

Our friends over at the King James Gospel also agree that Henson should be dealt. Why don’t the franchises let the sports blogs do some trading? It’d make things a lot more interesting (and would probably ruin plenty of franchises along the way).
