Reggie Jackson

Jackson is often the scapegoat of Piston fans frustrations and for good reason. Jackson often over dribbles the ball causing turnovers, takes questionable shots ruining the flow of the offense and is injury prone.

While Jackson is by no means a perfect point guard the only statistic that matters for him is that in the two seasons he has been healthy he is 2-for-2 in getting the Pistons to the playoffs. The biggest issue with Jackson does not lie within his on-court play. The issue with Jackson is his lack of ability to remain healthy to showcase his game.

For the first time in his career Jackson played all 82 games and that is an incredibly encouraging trend of health that I would expect to continue given that this health is correlated to the hiring of Pistons training guru Arnie Kander last offseason.

Remember when Jackson had that insane put back dunk against the Bucks in the playoffs this season?

That play had me out of my seat with excitement and leaves many Pistons fans wondering why Jackson doesn’t showcase bounce like that all the time. The answer to that is a super simple six letter word and it is spelled H-E-A-L-T-H.

When healthy we have seen Jackson play at a fringe all star level and he is absolutely worth his contract. Unfortunately for Jackson, he has gone through numerous untimely injuries and with his contract expiring after next season his time to prove to Detroit that he can still be part of the core may have passed. While Jackson’s future with the team is uncertain, one thing that is certain is that if he had remained healthy all those years the Pistons outlook would be a whole lot different.

Jackson’s best game of the season came against the Atlanta Hawks when he exploded for 32 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Regardless of how Jackson’s 2019-20 season pans out and if he remains on the team for the future, just be thankful to Jackson. He wanted his way out of Oklahoma City to prove that he could lead a team, and even if it may not have gone how we all had initially hoped, just think of how much worse we would be if Brandon Jennings was still our starting point guard. So based off that cryptic thought alone… thanks Reggie. (Seriously though. Thinking of Jennings as our franchise starting point guard is giving me nightmares)
