Wayne Ellington

Wayne Ellington was a mid-season acquisition for the Pistons. The Pistons got the chance to sign him when the Miami Heat traded him to the Suns who immediately waived him. Ellington was drawing interest from numerous contenders but ultimately due to the role Ellington would be given and his relationship with Pistons vice chairmen Arn Tellem, he decided to sign with the Pistons for the remainder of the season to showcase his talents in the hope of signing a more lucrative deal at the season’s completion.

More from PistonPowered

Ellington fit perfectly with the Pistons as a guy who can play off the ball effectively and create his own shot. Ellington was the mid-season push that the Pistons needed to carry them into their first playoff berth since 2016. In the off season, Ellington signed a contract with the New York Knicks who seem to be throwing money at everyone after their failed attempt at signing co-stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

While Ellington only suited up 28 times for the Pistons this season, he played an important role with the team starting 26 of those games and he will be sorely missed. He was a guy who could get hot in a hurry and before you knew it he would have 20 points on the board. On a team that lacked shot creation and go to scoring he was a big positive. Ellington’s best game of the season came against the Indiana Pacers when he put up 26 points to go along with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block.
