Defense

Snell has a reputation as an excellent wing defender at 6-foot-7, 213 pounds and the Pistons are excited to finally have a small forward with his combination of 3-point shooting and defense. In past seasons the Pistons would have small forwards that could score and not play elite defense, such as Reggie Bullock, or they would have small forwards that could play elite defense but struggled to consistently score, such as Stanley Johnson.

When these two departed, a gaping hole was left at the small forward position which forced Casey to play smaller shooting guards at the small forward spot, such as Bruce Brown or Luke Kennard (both players are 6-foot-5). These players held their own for the most part, however would become problematic when matched up against the larger and taller forwards of the league.

Snell brings a nice blend of all of these players at the small forward spot as he can shoot at a highly accurate rate to space the floor for Griffin and Drummond, has the quickness to keep up with speedier forwards, and the size to match up against larger forwards. This combination of skill sets will make Snell the perfect glue guy for the starting unit.
