10. Bruce Brown’s magic
December 30th, 2018
Final Score: Orlando 109, Detroit 107
Brown has sneaky athleticism, and can be a forgotten man sometimes in the teams offense, but if you know anything about Brown he has a serious beef with the rim, almost Russell Westbrook like with the ferocity he finishes at the rim with at times.
In this play, we see Brown receive the ball with around five seconds left on the shot clock in the first possession of the game, Browns knows he is not the best 3-point shooter, so what he does is uses a series of jab fakes to beat the smaller defender and use his explosive athleticism and quickness to blow by and throw down a nasty dunk.
This is a good sign for Pistons fans, an aggressive Brown. When Brown plays without thinking and with aggression, he shows why he deserves to be a starter. That added confidence was also on display in this years Summer League where he got heavy minutes, and played a good amount of point guard, also amassing a historic triple-double performance of 11 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists against the Sixers.
Unfortunately, in this game Orlando had the Pistons number throughout, losing on a clutch floater by Evan Fournier with zero time left on the shot clock. Former Piston Reggie Bullock tied the game the previous possession with two big free throws, but the defense was not good enough to stop the skillful Fournier from sealing the deal at the buzzer.
Brown finished this game with a stat line of 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist.
