With the off-season moves slowing down, and teams starting to look towards their pre-season, let’s refresh what the Detroit Pistons were able to accomplish over their off-season.
The Detroit Pistons had a busy and efficient offseason, where lots of moves were made, with none being particularly splashy. But what they did manage to do was improve their roster with upgrades over a variety of positions.
Players In:
Sekou Doumbouya (Drafted at Pick 15)
Deividas Sirvydis (Drafted at Pick 37, Likely draft and stash)
Christian Wood (Claimed off free agency waivers)

Christian Wood will only become guaranteed if he is on the roster after the first game of the season. I would expect Wood to make the final roster as he’s at least equal to the other backup center options out there, but he has some young upside.
Tony Snell brings some much-needed wing size to the roster which the Detroit Pistons desperately lacked, Derrick Rose is a more than capable backup who can spot start when required and score off the bench, Tim Frazier is not going to give me gray hairs like Jose Calderon did, Markieff Morris will bring some much-needed scoring to the bench unit. For me only one question remains, who will take that backup center spot?
The Detroit Pistons have improved on some of their most glaring deficiencies on last season’s roster, and have put together a decent roster from little means.
Here’s a look at their current depth chart:
Summer League
Outside of the roster moves the Detroit Pistons had a fairly decent summer league. Going into it they were widely tipped as one of the more talented teams, and they won 4 games in a row, making it to the finals/playoffs. They then lost to the Nets team led by NBA starter Jarrett Allen. The team was led overall by Bruce Brown who was on top in points, rebounds, and assists over the 5 games! He averaged 13.5 points, 8 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.5 blocks (all per game).
