Winning in the postseason requires great defense and Andre Iguodala would help the Detroit Pistons take a step forward in the postseason.

Getting to the playoffs is no longer the hope for the Detroit Pistons, it’s the expectation with the pieces in place.

Taking the next step requires a roster upgrade in hopes of putting an end to a 14-game playoff losing streak. Enter Andre Iguodala, one of the most critical pieces of the Golden State Warriors dynasty that netted the Bay Area three NBA championships in four years as part of a five-year run of NBA Finals appearances.

In fact, Iguodala was so important to the Warriors run, co-chairman Joe Lacob said nobody will wear No. 9 for the franchise again.

Iguodala, 35, is set to make $17.2 million in the final year of a three-year, $48 million deal he signed with the Warriors in 2017.

This offseason Iguodala was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies to clear cap space for the Warriors to eventually acquire D’Angelo Russell in a sign-and-trade. The Grizzlies reportedly will not buy Iguodala out, so the Pistons, or any other team, would have to acquire his services through a trade.

It’s hard to tell how much Iguodala has left in the tank. For one year of making a run, it’s worth the investment because he’ll show up come playoff time.
