Jackson’s contract year

All in all, Pistons fans can rest easy knowing that their stars are having a healthy productive offseason. Jackson is always shed in a light that casts him as an overpaid underachiever, however, last season was somewhat of a reminder that he can be an effective point guard, when healthy. As of now, he seems to be healthy while embracing his role as the second or third best player.

It is worth noting that this upcoming season is Jackson’s final year on his contract, which can have a lot of consequences.

A contract year can be a huge motivator for players to prove that they should still get paid on their next contract. In addition, a contract year means that if Jackson’s trade value keeps increasing, then the Pistons may be looking at trading him for other assets instead of losing him for nothing when his contract is up.

Those implications can be viewed in a positive light though. If Jackson wants to secure the bag once his contract is up, then he must play to his full potential, which in the end can result in wins for the Detroit Pistons.

Coming up this week, the Piston Powered team will preview Bruce Brown Jr., Tim Frazier, Jordan Bone and Derrick Rose as the staff continues it’s player preview series in August.
