How the Detroit Pistons are addressing last season’s 3-point shooting woes
Thon Maker improves 3-point stroke
Maker is one of the most interesting players the Pistons have on their roster. At 7-foot-1 with guard-like skills Maker has the potential to be an absolute nightmare on the court. Adding muscle to his frail 221-pound frame and improving the consistency on his jump shot will go a long way towards helping him reach that immense potential.
Maker is a career 32.6 percent 3-point shooter who shot just 30.7 percent in the 29 games he was a member of the Detroit Pistons. While these numbers are rather uninspiring, it is important to note that Maker is still only 21 years of age and in his rookie season shot 37.8 percent from three point range.
Again it’s worth repeating that Maker is a 7-foot-1 forward with a 7-foot-3 wingspan. He towers above the majority of power forwards and even many centers he matches up against. Those extra few inches allow for more open looks as he can just shoot over the top of most players.
With a full offseason to get acquainted with Casey’s offense and to build chemistry with his teammates, it is not too much to ask of Maker, who is approaching his fourth NBA season for him to improve his 3-point shooting to at minimum league average (35.5 percent from three). Maker improving his 3-point accuracy will help leaps and bounds towards the Pistons finding success this upcoming season.
