Bruce Brown was a surprise starter for the Detroit Pistons last season. He’s second in the Piston Powered player previews for the 2019-20 season.

With the 42nd pick of the 2018 NBA draft, the Detroit Pistons selected combo-guard Bruce Brown from the University of Miami (FL).

Brown, who spent two years with the Hurricanes, drew intrigue due to his combination of size (6-foot-5, 202 pounds), speed, and athleticism. Although Brown injured his foot midway through his sophomore season at Miami, he showed solid defensive upside and potential as a scorer in transition, making him a lock for the 2018 draft.

It was not long before Brown started receiving consistent minutes in Dwane Casey’s rotation. The Pistons’ second round draft pick eventually secured the starting shooting guard role, but only averaged 19.6 MPG.

Brown, 21, finished his rookie season averaging 4.3 PPG, 2.5 RPG, and 1.2 APG on 39.8% shooting from the field and 25.8% from three.
