Updating the Detroit Pistons roster and who should start
By Ash Vanclay
The Shooting Guards
Bruce Brown, Luke Kennard, Langston Galloway, Khyri Thomas
Bruce Brown shocked everyone last season by playing in a whopping 74 games in which he averaged 4.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists per game. He was called upon mostly for his on-ball defense where he was regularly given the opposing teams most talented player. Brown was the standout performer at Summer League for the Detroit Pistons where he was utilized on the ball and he almost averaged a triple-double across the tournament.
Luke Kennard managed 63 games in which he averaged 9.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists per game where he was predominantly leading the scoring off the bench. He was easily the Pistons best long-range shooter, but he seemed to hesitate on his looks, and this lead to him being taken out of games.
Langston Galloway seemed to be a favorite of Dwane Casey’s as he appeared in 80 games and averaged 8.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists per game. Casey seemed to favor him for his quick trigger and fearlessness in getting shots off regardless of the situation.

Khyri Thomas featured in 26 games mostly towards the end of the season and averaged 2.3 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.3 assists (per game) and was mostly used for spot minutes and injury insurance.
Brown should get the start for the majority of games this coming season. With Jackson not being particularly talented defensively, Brown’s defense becomes particularly important. If Bruce can improve as a 3-point shooter then he becomes a much more dangerous player with opponents having to actually guard him.
I also think that the floor spacing that Kennard provides, by bringing him off the bench with Rose, then they will both benefit each other and create space for each other to do what they need to do. Galloway should not be relied upon this season, and look for him to be traded at the deadline.
