The Small Forwards

Tony Snell, Svi Mykhailiuk, Sekou Doumbouya

Tony Snell played in 74 games for the playoff team responsible for knocking out the Detroit Pistons. He averaged 6 points, 2.1 rebounds, 0.9 assists per game in 17.6 minutes per game. Snell is a low-usage, knockdown 3-point shooter, who, at 6-foot-7, will be an upgrade to the Detroit Pistons wing rotation.

Svi Mykhailiuk has only played 3 games as a Detroit Piston but has averaged 3.2 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.9 assists in only 10 minutes per game over his career, which include 39 games for the Los Angeles Lakers. He was another standout performer at Summer League where he looked good offensively and seemed to do plenty of shooting which is his NBA standout skill.

Sekou Doumbouya was drafted 15th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft, so he’s only been a Detroit Piston for a few months. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see much of him in Summer League. He was the youngest in his draft class and is tipped to have one of the higher ceilings.

Snell should get the start here, as he is a knockdown shooter with good size to play defense on opposing wings, and is a good complementary player.

Both Mykhailiuk and Doumbouya are not ready to start yet, and will fight for the bench small forward spot. I would give that to Mykhailiuk as he has more experience around the NBA he should be slightly more ready, which will also allow the Detroit Pistons to be patient with Doumbouya and really develop him properly.
