Detroit Pistons 2019 preseason schedule set
Lost in the shuffle of the NBA announcing the 2019-20 NBA regular season was the final Detroit Pistons preseason game being reported.
The mystery of the Detroit Pistons preseason schedule is no more as the fifth game has surfaced.
True Blue Pistons reporter Keith Langlois reported that the Pistons will host the Dallas Mavericks on Oct. 9, giving the Pistons three games at Little Caesars Arena before the regular season tips off.
Detroit opens preseason play on Oct. 7 with a game against the Orlando Magic. This is an intriguing matchup to see the development of wing Jonathan Isaac. It also is an early look at how Andre Drummond and Nikola Vucevic match up. It could be a pivotal season series with playoff seeding implications.
Then it’s the Mavericks, who will be happy to see the return of Kristaps Porzingis. The 7-foot-3 forward has not played since tearing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament on Feb. 6, 2018. Dallas traded for Porzingis prior to last season’s trade deadline and will pair him with last season’s Rookie of the Year, Luka Doncic.

Cleveland visits Detroit on Oct. 11 for the final home preseason game for the Pistons. First round pick Darius Garland is set for his first basketball action after suffering a knee injury at Vanderbilt. He is joined by Kevin Love and Collin Sexton as the rebuilding Cavaliers look to see if their two-guard lineup is sustainable.
The Pistons hit the road for a back-to-back to close the preseason, beginning on the 15th with a meeting in Philadelphia. Former Pistons wing Tobias Harris, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons get to see how they stack up against an improved Pistons squad.
Charlotte will be the final stop in a preseason final on the 16th. The Hornets lost franchise star Kemba Walker in free agency but signed Terry Rozier to fill his void. Nicolas Batum, Malik Monk, Miles Bridges and rookie PJ Washington highlight a young Hornets team.
Then the Pistons will be ready for the regular season, having allowed time for new faces – Tony Snell, Derrick Rose, Markieff Morris and Tim Frazier – to gain chemistry with their teammates. It should also settle the competition for the final roster spot, likely between Michael Beasley and Christian Wood. They are on non-guaranteed contracts that become guaranteed on the first regular season game.
