Expectations for Thomas’ 2019-2020 Season

Thomas has certainly been putting in work this offseason and it is a great sight to see. Recently, Thomas played with the Pistons during the Summer League. This was the first opportunity that many Pistons fans got to take a good look at Thomas, and for the most part he performed well.

Overall, Thomas averaged 13.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. Thomas’ Summer League was highlighted by his 26 point performance against the Croatian national team.

After the Summer League, Thomas has continued to put the work in with an emphasis on improving his skill set. Thomas was recently spotted working with this season’s runner-up MVP James Harden.

Additionally, many of the Piston young guys joined up to play in one of the popular Rico Hines private workout pickup games. Full highlights of the game are available on YouTube but for the sake of this article we will show only Thomas’ highlights put together by the Pistons fan twitter page @StefanskiBurner.

It seems like Thomas was blessed with a great work ethic. When Thomas was asked about his offseason in an article written by Pistons beat writer Keith Langlois, Thomas said “I took a week off and kept at it – and that week I was off, I was just lifting. You know how much I played last year, so I don’t think I really had time for an offseason. The trainers told me to relax and chill. But I was like, nah, I don’t have time to relax and chill.”

You have to love that hungry drive to improve from Thomas. With Thomas’ potential and an attitude like that, you have to be optimistic about his future with the team.

Look for Thomas’ hard work to be rewarded this upcoming season with more playing time. Maybe not very large minutes but an increased, more consistent, defined role with the Pistons seems much more likely this season than it did in Thomas’ rookie year.
