Detroit Pistons: Why Carmelo Anthony Was Never a Good Fit
By Matt Clinton
Michael Beasley is a better fit
He’s your “favorite player’s favorite player.” Why is that? He’s a fun clubhouse guy, he can give your team valuable minutes, but, most importantly, he knows his role and embraces it.
With Beasley on the roster now, the Detroit Pistons have the number one and two overall picks from the 2008 NBA draft, joining Derrick Rose. Though he is not a superstar in this league, he has still shown flashes of excellent basketball talent.
Although he had a disappointing 2018-19 season with the Los Angeles Lakers, mainly due to a lack of playing time, he had a very solid 2017-18 season with the New York Knicks.

In 22.3 minutes per game, Beasley averaged 13.2 points per game on 51 percent shooting and 40 percent from beyond the arc in 74 games, starting 30 of them.
Clearly, when given the opportunity, Beasley can play. He can bring solid offense off the bench, which at this point, I feel he can do better than Carmelo can right now.
The deal with Detroit is non-guaranteed however, so he will have to earn his spot on the roster. Should he make the team, he will have to serve a five-game suspension for violating the anti-drug policy.
If he can prove that he still has the talent he showed in New York and keeps his off-the-court affairs in check, this will be a great low-risk, high reward signing for Detroit.
