Michael Beasley enters training camp fighting for a spot on the Detroit Pistons roster. Here’s what he brings to the table in 2019-20.

When the news broke that Michael Beasley had signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Pistons, it came as a surprise to fans as the roster had seemed to be set in stone for the upcoming 2019-20 season.

Nonetheless, here we are and with more players under contract than there are roster spots available for the regular season, a position battle will begin at training camp.

The Pistons currently have 20 players under contract going into training camp. If you ignore the two, two-way contracts and the two, exhibit-10 contracts, that leaves the Pistons with 16 players currently on their roster.

Come the regular season the Pistons must cut their roster down to 15 players. With 14 of the player contracts being guaranteed, it would seem likely that the final roster spot will come down to the non-guaranteed contracts of either Christian Wood or Beasley.

For the sake of this article we will assume that Beasley will make the final regular season roster, fully guaranteeing his contract. When he does, he’ll have to miss the first five games of the regular season due to a suspension for violating the NBA’s drug policy.

So with that understanding in place, let’s take a look at Beasley in the hopes of understanding him as a player and what he can provide the Pistons this upcoming season.
