Detroit Pistons: Analyzing Hooper’s schedule release skit games
Friday January 24, Grizzlies
The Grizzlies are at the beginning of a long rebuild that was jumpstarted on lottery night by giving them the second overall pick. That gifted Ja Morant straight into Memphis’ lap. Morant, one of the most exciting and electric players in this class coming out of the Ohio Valley Conference and Murray State.
Mike Conley, Marc Gasol, and Zach Randolph were the face of the Grit and Grind Grizzlies and all three are gone, marking the end of an era. Randolph was not resigned in 2017, Gasol was traded to Toronto for C. J. Miles, Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, and a 2024 second round pick at the February deadline, and Conley was traded this offseason. Conley was traded to Utah for Grayson Allen, Kyle Korver, Jae Crowder, and the 23rd pick in the 2019 draft.
Brandon Clarke was drafted at pick 21 and traded to Memphis for the 23rd pick. Miles was traded to Washington for Dwight Howard, who was then waived, Wright was traded to the Mavericks, Chandler Parsons was traded to Atlanta for Solomon Hill and Miles Plumlee, Jevon Carter was moved to Phoenix for De’Anthony Melton and Josh Jackson, and finally Tyus Jones was signed and Valanciunas was re-signed.
One of the smartest moves was getting Andre Iguodala to bring in championship experience, essential to building a good culture.
Another big headline on the Grizzlies is the 25-year anniversary of the Vancouver Grizzlies by bringing back one of the greatest jerseys in history. The turquoise Jaren Jackson Jr. or Morant Vancouver Grizzlies jerseys will be one of the most popular jerseys this season. Hopefully they will wear these jerseys against the Pistons.
This game will be similarly to the Cleveland games where the Pistons should win no problem, but it’ll be fun to watch these young studs in Jackson Jr. and Morant.
