Setting Maker’s 2019-2020 season expectations

This upcoming season fans can expect one word, improvement. Maker is a work horse no doubt about it. He plays tough night-in and night-out, and cares not about stats, but only about the win-loss column.

Maker has been in the gym this summer, working with strength trainers, and coaches to improve his game. His biggest flaw was his lanky frame, being a 7-footer but only 220 pounds. He needs to put on muscle to be more effective on both ends.

Maker has the touch inside out, but occasionally he would get stuck on offense and become one dimensional solely because he could not take advantage of his match up physically. Along with on the defensive end, he did not have the size to bang down low with many of the league’s bigger power forwards and centers.

The shooting stroke is also there for Maker, and the confidence along with it, shooting 30 percent from 3-point range last season. Expect for that to go up, along with his overall field goal percentage. Maker has also shown the ability to put the ball on the floor in the past, being able to push the pace in fast break situations. Expect a bench that will run, with Maker leading the pack.

With the improvement and increase in depth on the bench, with the additions of Derrick Rose, Markieff Morris, and Sekou Doumbouya, along with Luke Kennard, we will look for Maker to produce more statically based off the refinement of the bench.
