Trade candidates

Langston Galloway is likely the most attractive asset with a $7 million expiring contract. That would come in handy if the Pistons wanted to make a splash to bolster their roster before the trade deadline and a brutal stretch through March and April. Think of a move that would put Detroit ahead of their competition and into another tier of contention. So the Pistons could hold onto him for that reason.

He’s also durable, playing in 80 games last season, and can hit 3-pointers, which he did at a career-best 35.5 percent clip last season. His turnover rate was the best in the league at 3.7 percent.

That leaves Khyri Thomas as the next player that could be moved. The Creighton University product struggled in his rookie season. In 26 games, he averaged 7.5 minutes per game and shot 31.9 percent from the floor and a measly 28.6 percent from 3-point range.

There’s hope that he develops into a rotational NBA player but it may not be in Detroit. Thomas’ contract is easily moveable and the 23-year-old may become a casualty to depth as the Pistons look to improve on last season’s playoff appearance.

Other options aren’t as easy to come by. Rose and Tim Frazier provide needed point guard depth and could factor into the rotation. Mykhailiuk had a strong showing during Summer League and could develop into a 6-foot-8 point guard that can also be a marksman on the wing.

For the best shot at competing, the options may be limited. But for the Pistons, its good to have options heading into training camp.
