Detroit Pistons 2019-2020 Preview: Blake Griffin
Setting Griffin’s 2019-20 expectations
Blake said it himself last season, and as simple as it sounds – it’s the truth: This team cannot have any injuries. This team is so heavily reliant on every single player being at full strength.
With one full season under Coach Casey in the books, and a successful completed this Detroit Pistons team is looking to make a significant leap this season. This means getting at least 75 games out of Blake Griffin, the exact amount he played a season ago. With the tandem of Blake and Andre down low, and Reggie Jackson running point guard, pick and rolls should be the Pistons easiest bucket whenever they need it.
The Pistons have done a remarkable job with what little money they had to spend this off season in adding better shooting. This will free up some of the reliance the team puts on Blake and allow him to continue to be versatile without over exhausting his three point making ability.

Another All-Star appearance is certainly within the realm of possibility, as is another playoff appearance. With a more solidified offensive rotation across the board, (actually having more than one small forward on the roster is pretty helpful) and one of the more underrated second units in the league to back the team up, Blake Griffin will hold less of the burden for the Detroit Pistons offense. Though he will will still be the primary ball handler for the team throughout the year, there are more scoring options around Blake this season than in his previous one and a half.
As the star is coming off of yet another injury, one certainly wonders what he has left to give. If his performance down the stretch of last season is indicative of anything – he has plenty. The one thing Detroit needs to focus on is limiting the usage of Blake so as not burn him out by the time April comes around.
If we had to predict Blake’s stats for the upcoming season here’s what we’d say; A healthy Blake Griffin is capable of scoring 25 points per game, so for all intents and purposes, at the end of the 2019-2020 campaign Blake Griffin could average 25.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game.
