Andre Drummond clarifies free agency comments, loves Detroit Pistons
Andre Drummond took to Instagram to clarify what his comments on free agency from over the weekend meant and state is happiness with the Detroit Pistons.
After a lot of discussion has taken place surrounding Andre Drummond’s recent comments about free agency, he decided to clear the air.
Over the weekend, Drummond said free agency “should be fun,” noting that he’s one of the biggest free agents to hit the market. He clarified those comments on Instagram and Twitter on Tuesday.
"“For those who are confused about my comment about free agency, let me break it down … My point was I’m excited to go thru the process because I never been thru it, doesn’t mean I’m trying to leave Detroit. I love it here,” Drummond said."
There are still questions surrounding Drummond’s impending free agency. First of all, he could silence all of it by exercising his $28.75 million player option for the 2020-21 season. If not, then an extension is possible or else he will become an unrestricted free agent.
The likelihood of Drummond being paid is high, though maybe not a maximum contract. He is one of the premier free agents in 2020, and will be the top available big man as long as Anthony Davis sticks to his commitment to re-signing with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Drummond has become a top two-way player. The 26-year-old has the most seasons in NBA history (four) with at least 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 100 steals and 100 blocks. He was 11 blocks away from reaching that feat a fifth time during the 2016-17 season.

He’s effective in the pick-and-role and crashing the offensive glass but he’s looking to expand his offensive game. Similar to last season, Drummond has hinted at adding a 3-point shot.
After going 5-for-38 (13.2 percent) last season, he looks more fluid and has some consistency in unedited video of a workout. He also had a highlight-reel performance in a Pro-Am that showcased his newfound 3-point shooting ability. But we’ll see what happens come October.
While Drummond is looking forward to the process of free agency, the Detroit Pistons could benefit. Drummond, looking to maximize his earnings with his next payday, will be motivated to have a career year and help the Pistons to improve on a 41-41 season last year that resulted in the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference and a playoff sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks.
