Round 1 Pick 12: Luke Kennard

Luke Kennard was, and still is, a highly contentious pick for the Pistons. Opinions on who we should have picked differ from fan to fan. While Kennard may or may not have been the best pick we could have made. It is hard to argue against him being a good pick for the Pistons.

At the time the Pistons drafted him, the franchise desperately needed shooting. So it makes sense that Stan Van Gundy would draft the knockdown shooter. Two years into his career and he has yet to disappoint. In the two years Kennard has been in the NBA he has shot 40 percent from three. On a team that is still lacking in shooting that is a major asset to have on your roster.

Kennard’s future with the team appears to be very bright. In last season’s playoff series, Kennard got his chance to shine with Blake Griffin out the first two games due to injury. Kennard proved to the Pistons and the NBA that he belonged and deserved a larger role with the team. This season he will likely get his chance to do so with Kennard projecting to play an important scoring and playmaking role off the bench.

Whether you love the Kennard pick or hate it, Pistons fans will have to lock in for the smooth ride that will be Kennard’s career. His trajectory is looking upwards and the team would love to keep him as long as possible.
