Detroit Pistons throwback jerseys unlikely to happen in 2019-20
Two more NBA teams announced throwback jerseys for the 2019-20 season but the Detroit Pistons are unlikely to follow suit.
Unfortunately for a wide range of Detroit Pistons fans, there won’t be any throwback jerseys during the 2019-20 season.
There also won’t be any in the near future, for that matter, as Keith Langlois clears up in his mailbag.
"Any resuscitation of the teals would fall under the throwback banner – they can only be worn in an anniversary year for the franchise,” Langlois wrote."
The earliest the Pistons could showcase throwbacks is the 2020-21 season for the Fort Wayne Pistons (1941-57). The 70th anniversary of moving to Detroit would come in 2027-28.

That begs the question, why didn’t the Pistons use throwback jerseys during the 2017-18 season to commemorate the 60-year anniversary?
Unfortunately for Pistons fans, the wait will continue. The new city edition uniforms won’t be unveiled until Nov. 20 and can’t be debuted until Nov. 29, according to NBA rules.
Wednesday was a busy day as the Cleveland Cavaliers unveiled throwbacks to celebrate their 50th year as a franchise. The Cavs are going back to the 1994-95 season with these black-and-blue jerseys from their return season to downtown Cleveland and Gund Arena. They will wear them eight times throughout the year.

A few hours later the Utah Jazz announced their return of the purple mountain jerseys, notably worn from the 1996-2004 period with John Stockton and Karl Malone.
The Jazz are bringing them back to honor their move from New Orleans to Utah in 1979.
Pistons fans are forced to sit back and patiently wait for the latest city edition uniforms, which could be another “Motor City” design, or possibly something new.
