Defensive specialist

Bruce Brown

Bruce Brown was forced into a starting (although limited) role last year and was a pleasant surprise. He continued to build on this success by dominating in Summer League and looks poised to become a solid contributor.

Brown’s best-case scenario is that he develops a serviceable shot and gets A lot better at finishing near the rim. He evolves into a lockdown defender, can handle minutes at PG and makes it possible for the Pistons to move Jackson for a wing. Casey loves defense out of his guards, so there will be playing time for Brown, but to make an impact he must develop even league average offensive skills.

The worst-case scenario is really just the status quo. Brown has easily recognizable flaws and if he improves them he’ll be a contributor, if he doesn’t, he’ll be a guy we look back at and say, “what ever happened to that Bruce Brown guy who started so many games in 2018?” If Detroit wants to have sustained success they need guys like Brown to outplay their draft position.
