Atlanta Hawks offseason moves

Atlanta has noticeably improved its young nucleus, turning into a Top 5 League Pass team to watch this season. The additions of Cam Reddish, Bruno Fernando and De’Andre Hunter are going to be key to help the growth of Young and Collins.

The core was set up by sending the eighth, 17th and 35th overall picks to the New Orleans Pelicans for the fourth pick, which was when Hunter was drafted, rotational wing Solomon Hill and a future second round pick.

Reddish was selected with the 10th overall pick, giving the Hawks a pair of young wings that can defend multiple positions. Fernando is a 6-foot-10, 240-pound center selected 34th overall that could provide added depth to their rotation.

Add in 3-point marksman Kevin Huerter and promising wing DeAndre’ Bembry and the Hawks are building a strong foundation.

Atlanta made a host of other moves, including taking on the larger contracts of Chandler Parsons in a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies for Solomon Hill and Miles Plumlee, Evan Turner in a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers for Kent Bazemore and Allen Crabbe in a deal with the Brooklyn Nets for Taurean Prince and a second round pick.

Key losses: Kent Bazemore, Taurean Prince, Dwayne Dedmon, Jeremy Lin, Vince Carter

The additional wing depth and veteran presence will be a welcoming sight for the Hawks. Though they only have five players – Parsons, Turner, Crabbe, Parker and Alex Len – with five-plus years of NBA experience.

Detroit will have to rely on its veteran presence to take advantage of youthful mistakes when they happen.
