Detroit Pistons vs. Atlanta Hawks 2019-20 preview
Pistons offensive match up
Drummond has had his fair share of success against the Hawks. Last season he averaged 20.7 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.3 blocks and 2.7 steals per game while shooting 62.5 percent. Granted two of those three games were without John Collins matching up with him.
But Drummond is the ticket to Pistons’ success inside. The Hawks have depth in the backcourt and on the wing but squaring off against Collins and Len is a good opportunity for Drummond to score in spurts.
The wing depth and defensive versatility of the Hawks will make it tough on Detroit shooters but Jackson, Kennard and Snell can all have success as spot-up shooters.
Atlanta did a tremendous job at taking Griffin out of the game. In last year’s three-game series, he scored 12 points per game on 12-of-37 (32.4 percent) shooting and 4-for-18 (22.2 percent) from 3-point range. His 24.6 usage rate and 41.7 true shooting percentage were by far the lowest against any opponent last season.
Look for Griffin to get more touches early in possessions to allow the Pistons to get into their offense and provide more opportunities and spacing for the wings to play off the ball.
