Detroit Pistons vs Brooklyn Nets 2019-20 Season Preview
How the Pistons match up offensively
As it was mentioned earlier, the Detroit Pistons got found out pretty quick last season; double team Griffin and you’ll likely get the ball back without any repercussions. Fortunately for Detroit, they’ve reloaded with better shot creators on offense to counter this tactic.
This means Detroit will be able to, for once, consistently rely on their wings for perimeter shooting. This means Luke Kennard will likely get shots up at a higher volume coming off of the bench, and new addition Derrick Rose will be able to attack the basket.
The Detroit Pistons and the Brooklyn Nets operate on offense in relatively similar ways. Getting three’s up at a high volume is naturally the trend of the league today, however the success of the Pistons offense is largely contingent on it. Having their wings hit shots off of ball screens and back screens has been part of what head coach Dwane Casey has tried to implement in his first season.
The Detroit Pistons have to tread lightly when playing an interior game against this year’s Nets team. Jarrett Allen is emerging as one of the league’s best shot blockers, and Jordan has built a reputation of being aggressive in the paint as well.
This will at times force Detroit to try to, again, play the same game the Nets play. Pitting your 3-point shooters against one another may prove to be beneficial for this current iteration of the Detroit Pistons.
