Predicting the series
Game 1: Dec. 20, 7:30 p.m. at TD Garden
Game 2: Jan. 15, 7:30 p.m. at TD Garden
Game 3: April 13, 7 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena
Detroit and Boston each have unique mismatch opportunities against one another. The x-factor will be how the Pistons bench plays on both ends of the court. With a couple of veterans leading the way, they should be improved off last season.
It’s evident that Griffin and Drummond are going to dominate this match up, similarly to last season, but they need help. Who is going to step up for the Pistons to be that third scorer that can take a load off the big men’s shoulders.

Irving torched the Pistons last season and Walker, who is one of the top ball-handlers in the league, is going to have similar success with his ability to penetrate and draw contact.
The effort level on the defensive end will need to be there for a full 48 minutes in all three contests to improve on the four factors.
Prediction: Pistons win series 2-1
Sometimes a team just has the other team’s number. That was the case when the Pistons swept the regular season series from the Toronto Raptors last season; a championship season. This matchup for Detroit is solid on paper but due to the mismatches for both teams, the season series could swing either way.
The lack of depth in Boston’s frontcourt will force them to take a step back defensively, especially against the Pistons, which leads to a slight edge.
