Detroit Pistons vs. Chicago Bulls 2019-20 Season Preview
Stopping the Bulls will be harder
The Bulls’ offense presents more problems for Detroit, as they feature two talented scorers in Markkanen and LaVine. One of the Pistons’ focal points will have to be slowing down the super athletic LaVine, who broke out last season, averaging nearly 24 points per game. LaVine battled injuries for much of the year, so his health will be a primary concern for the Bulls, who had their season ravaged by injuries. If Bruce Brown can keep LaVine in check, then the Pistons should roll.
The biggest challenge for Detroit is Markkanen. It will be interesting to see how Detroit handles the 7- footer, as he likes to play on the wing, potentially pulling one of their bigs away from the hoop. The Pistons likely won’t want to put either Griffin or Drummond on him, which might leave the duties to Tony Snell and Markieff Morris.
This is not a great match up for Detroit, but they should be able to offset Markkanen on the other end, where he’ll be forced to guard either a stronger or faster player.
If Markkanen and LaVine have big games, the Bulls could present more of a challenge this year for Detroit, but the Bulls still lack depth and scorers, especially in the frontcourt. As long as they hold Chicago’s two primary scorers in check, the Pistons will cruise.
