Mavericks offense vs. Pistons defense

Detroit’s lack of wing depth could hurt the starting unit’s ability to separate itself from the Mavs. The size of Doncic, Courtney Lee, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Porzingis is a lot to handle, especially when you’re starting two-guard is 6-foot-2 and happens to be your best on-ball defender.

Brown will be up for a tall order, presumably guarding the 6-7 Doncic. snell will be fine against Lee, if that’s the assignment he draws. Griffin on Porzingis is an intriguing matchup.

But the depth on the wing beyond that favors Dallas, especially as the game wears on and gets deep into the rotations. Roby spent his time playing as a center at Nebraska but was a point-forward in high school. He recently showcased his skills out there.

In addition to Roby, the Mavericks acquired Justin Jackson, a 6-foot-8 wing who can shoot it.

If I’m Rick Carlisle, I’m starting Doncic at point guard with Lee, Hardaway, Porzingis and Powell. That’s a tall, strong lineup that is versatile enough to switch everything on the defensive end. It sets up the bench with shooters and wings that can attack the basket.
