Pistons offense vs. Nuggets defense

It’s hard to get a read on what the Pistons did well and struggled with from last year’s season series. It’s especially difficult, given the Nuggets rested key players in the first game of the series. Detroit was unworldly from the floor in one game and then suffocated in the second.

In all honesty, the Pistons played a solid game in the three-point lost but didn’t make shots. They only turned it over six times and grabbed 17 offensive rebounds, yielding 15 more shots than the Nuggets. After suffering a nine-point first quarter in that contest, the Pistons outscored the Nuggets 83-68 the rest of the way.

Griffin ran the offense in that game with a 39.8 usage rate. He should continue to be a point-forward in the series to utilize the wings and the 3-point abilities they showed in the first meeting.

Bruce Brown played 13 minutes in each contest, well below his 20 minutes-per-game average for the season. Even in a defensive contest, he was relegated to the bench, which means Kennard will get plenty of run in this series.

Dwane Casey isn’t afraid to go deep into his bench, even with last year’s abysmal depth. There should be some opportunities to score in the backcourt there and on the wing against Denver’s tired legs.

Detroit’s keys to success should simply be shot making. The Pistons have the blueprint to beat the Nuggets, which they should have done twice last year.
