Pistons Offense vs. Warriors Defense

The Pistons have been relatively okay handling the Warriors in recent years. They have averaged 108 points per game (ppg) against the Warriors among the teams’ last eight meetings, which is one point per game better than their 107 ppg last season. There have not been any embarrassing blowouts at the hands of the Warriors over the last decade (save for a 20-point loss on Jan. 12, 2017).

With the Warriors lacking depth at the center position, Andre Drummond should have no problem holding his own against youngsters Looney and Cauley-Stein. Although Drummond only has a height advantage over Looney, his weight advantage over both and his experience should remain effective in allowing him to establish post positioning and continue his success as an offensive rebounder.

The next best point of attack that the Pistons will have is at the small forward position. McKinnie, while young, proved himself last year as an effective defender in the playoffs. Whoever the Pistons decide to start at the three-spot will see McKinnie’s speed, but he is not an extraordinarily tall or long player.

The three is a young position for the Pistons as well; however, the Warrior’s lack of depth at this position gives the Pistons a potential opening for the bench to take an offensive advantage. If Robinson is to fulfill that role for the Warriors, the Pistons should be familiar enough with Robinson’s style that he will not cause any surprises. As well, his slight height disadvantage gives space for lengthy shooters like Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk or perhaps Sekou Doumbouya to launch.

While Green is a defensive beast, his match-up against Blake Griffin should, if anything, be entertaining. The good news is that Griffin will demand a lot of attention, leaving Green unable, or at least less willing, to drift too far with help side. Griffin’s strength inside should hold up well against Green, who is roughly twenty pounds lighter than Griffin, but his perimeter production might be slowed with Green on him.
