Detroit Pistons updated roster with Joe Johnson signing
Updated depth chart
This is the fun part of the piece where we get to play the role of head coach and determine what our depth chart would look like. Even with signing Johnson, the Pistons roster is going to need another move, or two, to get the roster to 15 guaranteed contracts, which excludes two, two-way contracts.
Johnson and Wood both bring value to the roster, and Johnson must still have a competitive athletic ability if it was enough for him to earn the training camp invitation over Michael Beasley. As a former Arn Tellem client and with Casey’s lobbying, it makes sense that he makes the roster.

For balance’s sake, Wood is likely to make it as well. Otherwise the Pistons will be left with Maker as the primary backup and leave plenty of small-ball minutes for Morris and Griffin.
The odd man out appears to be Galloway or Thomas, but for this story’s purpose it will be Thomas. Here’s what we’d do with our depth chart, listing each player once with the expectation that there would be some shuffling.
PG: Jackson/Rose/Frazier (Bone two-way)
SG: Brown/Kennard/Galloway (King two-way)
SF: Snell/Mykhailiuk/Johnson/Doumbouya
PF: Griffin/Morris/Maker
C: Drummond/Wood
There could, and should be plenty of shuffling with matching up against different opponents. But this roster should compete in the Eastern Conference from the four seed to possibly missing the playoffs. There are many variables that will dictate how the rotations differ, especially health.
How many wins does this roster get in 2019-20?
