Detroit Pistons 5 best acquisitions of the last 10 years
Blake Griffin
After being traded to the Detroit Pistons, Blake Griffin has shown that it is possible to live two lives. He let his old life as a member of the LA Clippers rest there while becoming a new, revitalized player in Detroit. He posted a career-high 24.5 points per game and played in his most games (75) since the 2014-15 NBA season.
Griffin possesses an innate star power, elevating the players around him. He hates losing and he even hates winning if the team plays like crap.
He is a leader. He helps the younger Detroit Pistons establish who they are and what it takes to be an elite athlete in this league.
Griffin has proven he can reinvent his game. As a younger player, he was known to drive in the paint and destroy the hoop with monstrous dunks. This faded away due to injuries and a personal renaissance has emerged.
He averaged less than one 3-point attempt per game in his first eight NBA seasons. As a member of the Detroit Pistons, he averages close to seven 3-point attempts per game. In addition, he used to shoot three-pointers at 31.6 percent but now averages a respectable 35.9 percentage.
Last year, Griffin played 75 games and it was his healthiest season since 2013-14. He is already by far one of the best, if not the absolute best, acquisition the Detroit Pistons made in the past 10 years. If he manages to stay healthy this year and beyond, Griffin will cement himself as one of the Detroit Pistons All-Time greats. As it stands, he is one of the NBA’s top power forwards.
