Was Detroit Pistons’ Luke Kennard snubbed off FanSided 25-under-25 list?
Kevin Huerter
Kevin Huerter, also know as Red Mamba, also known as Red Velvet, according to Basketball-Reference, found himself on the All-Rookie list last season for his time with the Atlanta Hawks.
A Maryland product, Huerter has a lot of similarities with Luke Kennard, it just so happens that Red Velvet got the 35 spot on the “best of the rest” list.
Aside from both being white shooting guards, Kennard and Huerter had pretty similar seasons. Now, Kennard did have one more season of experience under his belt, but Huerter already averaged more than 4.5 minutes per game more than Kennard did.

I wouldn’t be surprised if 10 years from now, Kennard and Huerter had very, very similar stat lines. They’re two very comparable players. Huerter is a little more well-rounded of a player while Kennard is a better offensive talent, but they still share qualities.

Huerter has had more opportunity on a team that can allow for that. The Hawks have a lot of raw, young talent with Huerter, Trae Young, John Collins and Vince Carter. With playoff aspirations still off in the distance, the team can allow for Huerter and Co. to experience growing pains, providing more opportunity for growth.
There is no Blake Griffin or Andre Drummond to take away shots. Huerter will likely take another step forward on the Hawks and might make more of an impact on the team, but does he become a good stats, bad team kind of guy?
I don’t think the Hawks will be bottom of the barrel for much longer, but for this upcoming season, I’d expect Huerter to have another green light.
Much like Looney, I’d probably replace Huerter with Kennard on this list while Murray has too strong of an argument to remain.
