Spurs offseason moves

This offseason, the Spurs shuffled the decks around Aldridge and DeRozan. They moved on from Dante Cunningham and Quincy Pondexter during the offseason, and Pau Gasol was bought out in March.

They drafted Luka Samanic, a Croatian power forward with the 19th pick, as well as Keldon Johnson, the 6-foot-6 wing out of Kentucky with the 29th pick. In the second round, they decided to select Quinndary Weatherspoon, a 6-foot-4 guard out of Mississippi State with the 49th pick and signed him to a two-way deal.

In free agency, the Spurs had their sights set on forwards. They re-signed their own Rudy Gay and went after former Piston, Marcus Morris. In order to create the necessary cap space, they traded Davis Bertans to the Wizards and received DeMarre Carroll through a sign-and-trade from the Nets. Unfortunately for the Spurs, Morris backed out of the deal in favor of a shorter but immediately more lucrative deal with the Knicks.

With Bertans traded to Washington, the Spurs turned to Trey Lyles in free agency to provide more depth in the front court.

One further addition for the Spurs is one that was already on their roster: Dejounte Murray. After the 2017-18 NBA All-Defensive Second Team guard tore his Anterior Cruciate Ligament during the preseason last year, the Spurs are looking forward to Murray’s return to the court this year. His presence will add another talented player to their guard rotation from last year.

Let’s take a look at how the Pistons’ offense will matchup with the Spurs’ defense.
