Pistons O vs. Suns D

Despite a normal workload (33 minutes per game) in the two games last season, Blake Griffin struggled offensively. He shot 33 percent from the field but managed to facilitate by averaging 9.5 assists per game.

He’s going to need to be better against the biggest weak spot in the Suns lineup. His ability to dictate the offense as a scorer and facilitator will be important against an improved Suns rotation.

Detroit has done a good job of improving its roster with floor spacers. Namely, Tony Snell will be an asset for Griffin to dish to. But Luke Kennard, Jackson and others will have an opportunity to shine beyond the 3-point line. Phoenix was the third-worst team in 3-point percentage last season, allowing teams to shoot 37.2 percent from beyond the arc.

Drummond’s ability to patrol the paint, leading the league in offensive rebounds the last six seasons, should give him an opportunity to win extra possessions on the glass and get easy putbacks as a result.

It’s no secret that the Pistons shot the ball incredibly well against Phoenix last season and, though improved, it should continue this season.
