3. The Ascension of Luke Kennard

A lot has been written about Luke Kennard this offseason. Some lunatic even suggested he could be the next Manu Ginobili. A few of the national writers got in on the action with Chris Vernon of the Ringer and guru Zach Lowe of ESPN saying Kennard would be an interesting player to watch this season. I agree, as Kennard has a chance to improve dramatically in year three and will be one of the most important storylines of this season and hopefully many seasons to come.

The Pistons chose Kennard one spot ahead of Donovan Mitchell and the two will be linked for the rest of their careers. This isn’t fair to Kennard, but this is the year he must prove that the Pistons didn’t make a Sam Bowie-level error when they passed on Mitchell.

Hot. Was Luke Kennard snubbed in FanSided's 25-under-25 list?. light

Pistons’ fans hope that last year’s playoff Luke was a preview of things to come. With increased minutes and touches, he should have a chance to show what he can do. He’ll probably still come off the bench, but Kennard could be something special alongside starter Griffin, as their games compliment each other well.

All things are set up for Kennard to have a breakout year and if the Pistons are good, he may even push for Most Improved Player. Either way, Kennard is going to be a story to follow.
