Luke Kennard is a crafty young shooting guard for the Detroit Pistons, but how does he stack up against other famous guards like J.J. Redick and Kyle Korver?
When the causal NBA fan thinks about prolific shooting guards in the league now, they think of guys like James Harden and Klay Thompson, but real fans know it’s actually guys like JJ Redick and Kyle Korver that define the position. Generally not many Detroit Pistons will come to mind.
Okay, just kidding. However, guys like Redick and Korver have been very consistent throughout the entirety of their careers, always putting up points and knocking down three’s at a high clip. These two NBA vets have been counted on to get buckets for quite a while now, and that is what the Pistons are hoping for from their own offensive minded shooting guard, Luke Kennard.
The Pistons drafted Kennard with the 12th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft with some lofty expectations. To say that this team was in need of a wing player who could create shots and score from the outside would be an understatement, and that burden was placed squarely onto Kennard’s shoulders.
In his two years in the league thus far, Kennard has shown us flashes of everything that we were hoping for. His ability to move the ball, create for himself and others, and knock down the three with consistency has given Pistons fans hope, not only for his future, but for the team as a whole.
Kennard’s strides in just about every category from his rookie to sophomore seasons have Pistons fans wondering just how far he can take his talent, and if he could be as consistent of an offensive threat as Korver and Redick have been.
While Kennard still has a lot to show us and a lot to prove in this league, its clear to see that he already stacks up to players like them, and his play style is similar in many facets as well. In this article I’m going to be taking a look at just how Kennard compares to these two players, and how he can take it to the next level.
