The Detroit Pistons completed a big comeback win,109-105 over the Cleveland Cavaliers, after being down 19 late in the third. Here are the trends.

Bruce Brown had a big game, Andre Drummond kept up the good work, Derrick Rose and Luke Kennard did what Pistons fans hope will be their thing, Blake Griffin was out and Joe Johnson came through in the clutch. It was a preseason game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, so all data should pass through that filter before jumping to conclusions on the Detroit Pistons 109-105 win.

The Pistons played a sleepy first half, falling behind early to the Cavaliers. No one seemed to be too worried given that it was a preseason game and they trailed comfortably for the most part of the first three quarters.

The most important factors for their deficit were their perimeter defense and the fact that the Pistons were doing horribly from three, while the Cavaliers were hitting everything up until a point. Late in the third, the difference reached a game-high 19 points with a Cleveland fast break.

Drummond ends up on the floor, no one fouls to give him time to run back, Cavs are on a 5-on-4 and Kennard forgets that Kevin Porter Jr. can only go left. Johnson seems to have spotted an old friend in the crowd and is dumbfounded that someone is coming to dunk on the basket he’s defending.

From then on, the Pistons started making more baskets while the Cavaliers went completely cold. Brown seemed like the lead ball-handler out there at times. Tim Frazier hit some pull-up shots. Johnson went Iso-Joe late in the fourth, making fans worried that the team is going to keep him now and the Pistons sealed the win.

So let’s see whose stock is up and whose stock is down after last night’s game.

Honorable Mention: Andre Drummond

Drummond played well against the Cavs maintaining a high stock. However, he was inefficient. He was great when he was attacking Tristan Thompson and constantly drawing fouls. He attempted 10 free throws in 23 minutes, making five of them.

But when he put his back to the basket and went to his hook shots the results were terrible still. Drummond needs to fully embrace the bully ball and always attack. He’ll start drawing more fouls and he’ll have to make his free throws to complete the picture. Combine that with high-level defense and more responsibilities operating as a passer from the high post and we could see a great year from Drummond if he puts it all together.
