Detlef Schrempf predicts Detroit Pistons will make the NBA Finals
Former NBA All-Star Detlef Schrempf was recently interviewed by GQ and made a bold prediction – that the Detroit Pistons will play in the NBA Finals.
The Detroit Pistons will play in the 2020 NBA Finals.
At least that’s how former NBA All-Star Detlef Schrempf sees things shaking out, he said in a recent interview with GQ India. Schrempf, a three-time All-Star, waxed nostalgia about his time with the Seattle Supersonics, the many personalities he played with and what it was like to be a German in the NBA.
The interview was relatively mellow until the end when Schrempf made predictions for the NBA season. He named Anthony Davis as his MVP favorite, (no shock there) picked either the Portland Trailblazers or Los Angeles Clippers to win the West (again, not crazy) and then went completely out of left field and picked none other than the Pistons to make the NBA Finals out of the Eastern Conference.
My first thought was that Schrempf may have been frozen in a block of ice since 2004 and was under the impression that the Goin’ to Work team was running it back. Turns out that he’s been thawed this whole time and still picked the Pistons go to the Finals, defying the odds and human logic. The pessimist in me said Schrempf is going for a hot take.
The optimist in me started to come around to his idea. After all, Schrempf is a former All-Star, he must know stuff, maybe he sees something that no one sees. Maybe he’s a secret genius! I started Googling “Detlef Schrempf Finals Predictions” to see if he might have a 20-year streak of picking the teams correctly. I found a lot of nothing.
He’s not like that octopus who picked the World Cup and to my knowledge has no psychic powers, but maybe he’s onto something. Either way, I’m thinking of buying a Schrempf throwback just for giving Detroit some love.
I tend to run to the extremes of optimism and morbid cynicism, so I’ve gone from “HE’S TOTALLY RIGHT!” to “He should probably see someone” since I started writing this. Let’s look at why Mr. Schrempf is definitely wrong, but why he just might be right.
